I'm about to pick up my allroad this week but was wondering what type of break-in
requirements are in the owners manual? The dealer is 100+ miles from my house
and about 35 miles from where I work. I was planning to just stop by the dealer
and pick up the manual with out the car but after doing some reading in this forum
and just knowing myself I don't think that is going to happen. Any tips would
be appreciated.
Thanks

You will get a chuckle when you read the manual; I recall that it says stay less than 75% of max speedometer (125mph) :-) , dont red line it , and dont drive at constant speed for 1000miles or close to that. If you are like me.. you will be through the breakin miles in a few days...
A week before I picked mine up, they had just got a demo in and it had less than 100 miles on it.. the salesman let me take it out and encouraged me to spin it up without referencing any limits - I did ! Don't know who is buying that one, but am glad mine only had 7 miles on it. !!
ENJOY !

"Try to shift into *all* the gears sometime before the first oil change (D, R, P, 3, 2, 1, and the manual Tip gears) -- not just D, R and P."
I did as he suggested and I really don't know if it made a difference one way or the other.

to keep the car under 4000 rpm for the first 1000 miles and avoid cruise control for that period and vary the speed. I did this and the car is very tight. I have used no oil for the last 3000 miles and added none (3800 to date). It gets faster by the mile.

I was told no break in required. I did not listen. Except for once, kept it under 4000rpm, and minimized long highway trips. The manual says to keep the car under 120mph (haha), I never exceeded 85. No oil used in the first 1200 miles.
Good luck, enjoy

Thanks for the iformation. My date for pick up has now been pushed back to
1/2/01. I waited this long so another few days won't kill me.
Thanks Again,
jr
