Broken Navi knob

Broken Navi ****
The small rotary **** on my Navi system is broken. I called the dealer, and the parts guy said that it didn't appear that the **** is sold separately... that I would have to buy the whole switch/control unit... at a cost of $87.
Can anyone validate that? Has anyone else's **** broken, and if so, how did you fix it or replace it?
Thanks.

Superglue
I had that problem with my 01 TT. The **** is a press fit onto it's stalk, but the inner part is easily broken. The entire switch was changed several times under warranty, but there seemed to be a design change after a while - the most recent fix lasted until I sold the car.
If you're out of warranty, maybe you could superglue it back on if the inner part isn't too badly broken.

Re: Superglue
I figured that with it being plastic, surely some others have run into it breaking. I guess your having the whole switch replaced confirms that the **** is not sold separately. Bummer... since I am out of warranty.
The inner part is just cracked... enough so that it doesn't grip. I'm going to try a few things... my first thought was a metal sleeve or nut that might slip over the plastic inner part... or superglue... or the age-old classic, duct tape!! :-)
Thanks for the feedback.

Another vote for Superglue
Same problem for me. I used superglue on the inside and outside of the shaft cylinder to hold the crack together. I guess the glue buildup on the inside was enough that when I put the **** back on, it felt very tight. No problems since (over 6 months).
Best of luck

Re: Another vote for Superglue
So... did you Superglue it onto the shaft, or did you just try to fix the crack inside the **** with Superglue, and then when it dried, put it back on?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Superglue
I'm happy to report that it worked. I didn't use Superglue... but another glue/clear epoxy that I had in the garage.
Hopefully, it will withstand the test of time.
Thanks again for all the feedback.
