Default Burning oil?

I have just under 15K on my 2001 allroad. I have changed the oil every 5K miles and have used Mobil 1 5W30. To my knowledge, I have not had an oil burning situation in the past. At about 14.5K the oil light came on for the first time. I stopped right away, checked the dip stick, and found the oil level to be almost off of the stick. I added the only oil available which was dino 5W30. I have since performed an oil change to Mobil 1 5W30. There have been no spots in the garage. Any ideas? Turbo seal leak.....? The dealer said to monitor the situation, but this does not give me a comfortable feeling.

Default Re: Many Allroads burn oil routinely

It appears that many owners have noted burning oil at various times. This is supposed to be related to driving conditions as well as driving style as well as age of the car. One dealer states that Audi does not consider it a "problem" until you start burning 1 quart every thousand miles. My Allroad had only 3,800 miles on it (but 6 months old) when the oil light came on while I was travelling at high speed. Very frightening, but others have experienced similar events. I had to add 1.5 quarts to bring the level to the 3/4 full mark. If you do a search, you can read about other's stories. Anyway, I would just keep an eye on it for now.

Default not exclusive to Audi(s)

For a brief period, I drove a 2002 M3. That thing burned through oil like an excusrion goes through gas for the first 5000 miles. I went through several quarts in that period. This often happens in modern - higher performance vehicles for the first few thousand miles.

This shows the importance of checking the oil frequently; don't depend on the warning light, at that point you'll be risking damage to your engine. Hot weather and/or high engine demand may increase oil comsumption.

My ar used one quart the first 5000 miles, at which point I changed to Mobil1 0w30, per previous recommendations on this forum. Three thousand miles later, the car hasen't used any oil at all since the oil change.

Default identical situation

At almost the same time the odometer turned to 15,000, we saw the oil warning light. The big frusttration for me is the Audi recommended service routine, which goes from 5,000 to 10,000 to 20,000 miles (and 10k after that). Clearly the car should have oil changed every 5,000 miles.

Default Could be the motor breaking in or type of oil you're using

From my experience with previous Audis, using oil is normal. My '02 allroad used a quart from new to 5k, then about half a quart of Mobil 1 5w-30 from 5k to 10k. I switched to Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30 at 10k. Now at 18k it has not burned a single drop, even under high speed long distance highway driving. From what I have read, Amsoil is probably one of the few oils that will hold up under a 10k mile change interval. (They rate it for changes every 25k miles)
