Camshaft Position Sensor 2 (G163) - Checking / Replacing
Hello all,
This sensor is on the drivers side on the back of the engine near the firewall.
There are a few things in the way that I cannot get my hand in there to disconnect the harness to measure for the 5V across pins 1 and 3.
Has anybody ever had to replace/check this sensor before? Looking for tips to getting to it and / or replacing it. I could not find any useful information in the Bentley for it. At least for the 2.7T. It does list a small bit of info for the 4.2. How similar are these? Looks like the sensor is in the same place on the two engines.
Suggestions please?
Thanks!
Gavin

If you have an automatic I think you're going to have to remove the
secondary air pump, coolant bleeder line, hose to the combi valve, then bend the solid line to the combi valve. The sensor is in a nasty place.

What were your symptoms / resolution?
Were you getting the following fault?

Thanks!

When I did my t-belt I also did all the cam seals. To replace the driver
side seals I had to remove the cam position sensor. When I put everything back together I posted a Camshaft code. I didn't have the plug pushed in all the way. I know what you have to remove to replace the sensor but can't speak to your specific code.
FWIW I'll bet your sensor is bad. I don't think they are expensive just a pain to replace.

Just did this on a non-secondary air pump car....
...took 2 minutes. Pull the combi valve on your car and you should get plenty of access. Just pull the coolant reservior out (move to side) and it's not that bad.
