or so left.

I always replace them in 4's but I hate to waste money if I can get away with just 2.

Thanks!

Default You can try but I am replacing all of mine (I was planning to anyway just to be on the safe side)

but I ran with 60% rear about 75% on the front left and new on the front right and the vibration was pretty bad...I hope replacing them all around solves it...my thought on mine was one was unsafe so I had no alternative, even for a short time...so you could always try as long as they are tires you want to commit two additional to if the experiment doesn't work...good luck.

Default As long as you put the new ones on the front..

and the old ones on the rear you should be fine.

Default Argument is opposite: more grip in rear to avoid oversteer for safety, FWIW. On the other hand,

the real issue is the difference in tread depth f to r and affect on quattro due to rotational speed delta f to r.
Tire shops put new on rear b/c understeer is more comfortable than having the rear come around for most drivers. Boring, eh?

Default IMHO...beter tires where the steering takes place.

at least this is what I was taught. Also front tires wear faster than the rears on our cars.
Plus, the difference in rotational diameters is so miniscule, that it will not be any problem for the car. The front and rears are not locked together like old style 4WD.

All tires should be the same brand/model and no more than 4/32" tread depth difference, IIRC.

In fact, that's what we do with our trucks - steer tires are new, other axles retreads.
