Default can't open lift gate

one can hear/feel the unlocking mechanism activate, but neither from the inside nor outside can I get the lock hook off the U-bolt. Anyone else with this problem/solution. Tech thinks the door will have to be disassembled from the inside, no easy task. Thanks.

I had it and they did have to go in from the inside. PITA.

Default It is a tiny piece of plastic that breaks inside and causes it not to latch:( Yes it

has to have the inside rear cover removed and they will most likely break some of the clips...my stealers guys broke ALL of them...and thought I wouldn't notice...I noticed and had to take it back after they ordered all the little pieces...you might mention to them that they are CLIPS as in don't just rip it off.

Yup. Also make sure they get ALLthe broken bits out or you'll have a rattle when you close the lid.

Default I posted up pics of mine 2 weeks ago. The part should be here this week. If you are doing it

urself, lemme know and i can walk you through/post pics of how since it's fresh in my mind. I left the interior trim piece off until the new part arrives.

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/251930.phtml</a

Ah, duh, click the highlight! This is very helpful. And, clearly, is going to be more interesting than I had hoped. I will update as the problem is approached. I surely appreciate the responses of dscottjr, girlroad, and no.radar.

Default If you're having someone else fix it -- tell them to make sure they remove the mouding correctly

because it's not intuitive. They have to remove the 'inside' part of the rear sunshade which makes 4 screws/bolt heads accessible. There are 4 screws under the sunshade, 1 under the grab handle, and 1 in the emergency triangle holder.

Feel free to email me any more questions you might have since i'm 'in the fix' right now:-)

Default Re: can't open lift gate

First, thanks for the input. After being unable to open the liftgate, I finally took it to 3zero3 in Denver today. The technique for removal was as has been described by no.radar and dscottjr. There was no problem with the locking mechanism and no broken parts in my case. For reasons not yet entirely clear (I haven't dissected the lock yet), the locking latch simply was STUCK around the u-bolt. A new one was 83 dollars and an hours time was charged. The metal clips holding the panel to the door are mounted in plastic--a plastic welder is a good idea, as I found many cracks, breaks on part of the panel and the casing for the pull up window screen. I do think I am going to keep a bit of PB Blaster on that mechanism in the future.
