Check Engine Light
My mechanic friend scan my 2001 allroad (automatic) and said there is a catalytic converter fault, on Bank 1. Something like P0142 or P04... something.
Something about Efficiency below theshold level.
Then he said I could bring to the dealer to have the car re-program to upgrade the specs so that it won't throw the code.
Does anyone know anything about that ? I plan to bring it in to the dealer tomorrow.
Thanks.

Get it scanned with Vag-Com and report the findings here.
Verbatim preferably.
Could be SAI pump or 02 sensor or maybe even something else.
Depending what you'll be doing with this car, come back for advice.

Your problem is exactly as described - cats are below efficiency threshold. There may be an ECU update to increase the threshold, but if not, you could always install O2 spacers.

^ I agree . Although depending on where he lives, he may need to smog.

Dealer denied.
I called local dealer and they denied that there is no such recal (upgrade of ECU) .
But right now the Check Engine Light is off due to recent disconnection of battery. It hasn't turned back on .
I guess it will come back very soon.
I read on a Toyota forum that there is a cheat one can install on one of the sensor to reduce the amount of whatever measure by that sensor. Others there said that even though it seems like the cat's fault, just replace the sensor would clear the problem.

I have the same code in my car - the mechanic said it's (in my case) because the previous owner replaced one of the cats with an aftermarket unit vs OEM. He said as long as the car runs fine, it shouldn't cause any problems. Fortunately, the light was off for some reason when I had my emissions checked
