Default To Chip Or Not To Chip???? (my 01 2.7T Tip 66,000 m)

Thinking of chipping my 01 2.7T Tip 66,000 miles with APR. Pros, cons? Can the dealer tell? Risks to engine? I know this is constantly talked about but would appreciate the collective wisdom of the board

Default honest answers...

Dealers can tell.. but only if they have reason to look for it.

It doesn't void a warranty, but can make a specific claim suspect... IE your tranny blew, could the added power of a chip be the reason?

But you have 66K so I guess you have CPO.

I love the chip, I have a savy and cooperative dealer, they even sell mods like this, so while I have had issues during warranty, Nothing has been voided. Yes I blew turbos at 30K, but no one was able to say whether it was the luck of the draw, a really bad launch, or the chip.. Now I have over 70K on my current turbos and chip.

If you want to play..be ready to pay is the addage.

Get the chip and enjoy the ride.

Default Good to hear...I have dealer envy....

Thanks Paul. I wish I had your dealer. We here in Maine are relegated to Morong of Falmouth. They probably would not be complicit in any way. How was the difference from stock to chipped? Was it like "holy @#$" or more like "wow pretty cool"? Oh yeah...did they cover the turbos?

Default wanna drive mine?

I'll be in Maine next week for work. You are more than welcome to take my allroad for a spin. I've had the APR chip for about 2 months (just about 10k miles). At first it was holy sh!+, but now I'm use to the power and "forget" what it was like stock.

I have to go to Falmouth, Portland, and Kittery one day next week (any but Thursday). Let me know if you want to do a little GTG. . .

Default Re: honest answers...

These turbos are hardly reliable. Obviously doubling the boost is not going to do anything but shorten the (measly) life of these turbos. The extra power is not nearly as noticeable as a with a 1.8t.
