Coolant loss

Coolant loss
Just returned from 400 mile trip, now with 4000 miles on odometer. Coolant temp warning light came on indicating coolant loss. Checked level and was slightly low but still visible in expasion tank. Replaced but still seems to be loosing some. Completed the 400 mile trip by adding only a few ounces of coolant. Any similar experiences or anyone with problems or coolant leaks?

Owners Manual
Assume everyone knows, but just in case: If and when you need to add coolant make sure it is the exact formula specified in the owners manual. It warns that failure to do so will result in severe engine damage! If in an emergency you may add water only, but you should add the appropriate amount of Audi coolant to bring back the proper mixture ASAP.

Re: Owners Manual
I was in Philly en route to Boston last week and while on bridge coolant light came on. I pulled over as soon as I could and read the owners manual. I called Audi and was told that I could use any Ethylene glycol base coolant and was able to buy, near where I stopped, some EG based coolant, though it was lime green and not Audi pink. Coolant was at base of expansion tank well below min level, although when the cap came off and released pressure the level settled near the min level again. I made it back to Boston without the light coming on again, though I did add a little more coolant in Hartford just in case. I cannot see a leak. I am trying to get an appointment at the dealer to look at it, but so far July 3 is best I can do.
