Spoke with both 3zero3 and Autoworks Colorado. Both seemed very professional and familiar with the work to be done. But both took different approaches with their estimates.
Autoworks quoted a 'worst-case' scenario, which I appreciate because I hate surprises. They said they would replace anything that even touched the belt and the various gaskets and seals that required removing the belt to reach = $2400
3zero3 said they do only the work that Audi recommends for service and would do a visual inspection to see if anything else needed to be replaced = $1,500
From my own perspective I like having the piece of mind knowing that anything even remotely suspect would be replaced and that I wouldn't have to pay someone $100/hr to tear everything back down again in a few months or so. But a $900 difference is a hard pill to swallow.
Thoughts?

Randy and Todd at autobahn are getting ready to move to a new shop so they might be a couple weeks out with appointments. Randy and Todd have done many a 2.7T timing belt and know what they are doing. call them and they'll get you an accurate estimate.

I prefer 3zero3 but autoworks and avalon are both great shops. I just recently met the folks at avalon, but they seem to have it together. Honestly I just avoid champagne motors... Also, if you're part of the quattro club, the dealer is pretty inexpensive. I know a great service guy there named Aaron. If you just tell them you're in the quattro club, you'll get out of there pretty inexpensive.
