I swear the thing is a hunk of plastic. Weird to make something we touch so much feel so lifeless...

I have a manual (leather shift ****), but when I was given a loaner A6 recently (pretty high milage), I noticed immediately the center console was shiney from being worn. Really shiney, where it stood out as an obviously plastic piece vs. the rest of the interior leather. It's so small -- why vinyl?

and restores the original "matte" finish of the leather...plus, the scent it leaves behind is like that of new leather mixed with new car...very, very nice.
One should try to clean the leather at least as frequently as just as the shininess starts. Waiting for it to get bad might be tougher to fix.
At 33k on my 4.2, the leather looks virtually brand new.
