Default ECU Box

Tried to unplug my ECU this morning to reset all the "customizations" and by jove there is one screw in the back that is hard as hell to get off took about 15 minutes. Is there an easier way to kill the memory of the black box? Would unpluging the battery terminals do something wierd?

Default Just lose your presets.. There are also 3 fuses that tie into the ECU/ Engine

I'm wondering if you pull all 3 will it do the same thing as pulling the ECU?

Not sure.

Default Disconnecting the negative battery cable will reset the ECU

Leave it disconnected for about 15 minutes. When you reconnect, insert the key and turn it to the on position without starting the car for about one minute. This will do the throttle adaptation.

Just an FYI, you can remove the ECU without removing the back screw. Remove the other 4 and you can open the box enough to remove the ECU.

Default On a Outback...

You just pull a large fuse S3. Think I'll do the battery thang. BTW my ECU box is held down by a spring like bracket - how the hack you get it out from under it w/o removing the last screw?

Default long screwdriver, pop it to the right. Mark is the Allroad ECU harder to get to then the S4?

The last bolt on the S4, is not that bad with the right tool.

Yup, use a long screwdriver. The allroad ECU is just as easy as the S4.

That is the point I was trying to make, it's pretty easy.

You mean pop the screwdriver in the bracket to get it to pop off?

Default Yes. There is a plastic post on each side of the ECU that the bracket clips on to.

Place the screwdriver inbetween the bracket & the post & pry it a little, the bracket should just pop off. You might have to work it a little. To replace, it just clips back on.
