Piston's turbo's & exhaust valves melting is the problem not o2 sensors. The egt's can

tell the ecu to add a little fuel to cool down the exhaust temps.

That's short sighted - they do a lot more than that. If you do this at least put an aftermarket gauge in there to read the temps so you can watch them. Or check the range of output on the OEM thermocouple and find an aftermarket replacement for the stock EGT sensor probe - shouldn't be hard to do.
