Default Engine Shut down on test drive after axle install

Allroad 2.7t tip.
front axles were in need of replacement, So I did both.
Got all done took for test drive.
Seemed OK, a little shudder when the suspension would compress over undulating pavement.
Not really that bad I'm being picky.

Then I took out on the hwy to give her a good run.
Pulled out at 3/4 power too see what it felt like.
then all of a sudden total engine power loss.
all accessories and lights still on and functioning.
Put in neutral and coasted to side of road.

Tried to start.
cranks fast no start.
like I said power windows work lights wipers etc.

When I go to start everything is as usual just no start.

I don't have vag com and no one in my area does either.
I did check with scanner and nothing.

Need advise, its our family car and I need to get it running soon.
Thanks in advance.
Doug

When you say "cranks fast no start", do you mean cranks normal, or does it actually crank faster like it has less resistance?

Seems like less resistance.
The serpentine belt is rotating so I assume the starter is engaging.

So if timing belt why no noise from valves and Pistons hitting each other.
What is the easiest way to tell if the belt has broken or skipped?

It all depends where the engine was in it's rotation when/if it let loose. Fairly easy to check. Just pull the plastic covers off the front of the engine. You don't need to remove them completely.

If the belt is broken, it will be loose. Since you've already cranked the engine, you can't do any further damage by cranking to see if the belt turns.

I'm just throwing this out as an option, since you have no codes. Gotta start somewhere.

There won't be any noise. That noise already happened when/if the belt broke. When was the timing belt last serviced?

No noise. The engine just stopped.
Instantly off no nothing. All lights on dash heater Windows all working as normal at time off engine shut down.

What are the chances I messed up the crank sensor / speed sensor ?
I'm out of town now car is in my shop I'll look at it sat and see what I can see.
Would be nice if I busted it removing the axle and it died 2 miles later.
Seems possible but I'm not counting on it.
Thanks for all the help.
Any more ideas always welcome.
Doug

Oh timing belt at like 120k. Previous owner
190k now.
I only paid 6k for this car 5 years ago and I love it.
Hope it's not timing cause it ain't worth putting 3 grand into imo

A speed sensor would not kill the engine. I have a bad one in the right rear of my car, and I get an intermittent code when the Traction control and abs turns off.
I think belts are "good" for 60k. Obviously, they will last longer, but not a good idea in these engines.
Hopefully, it's something simple.

Audi calls it the speed sensor ( crankshaft position sensor) there is only one on the trans right near the driver side cv axle.
If this is damaged the car won't run. (So I've read)
