I leave mine on unless I am in deep snow and esp is staying on. This may result in overheating brake

Default I leave my esp on all the time, the only time it is off is

When I want to play ralley driver, (wife will hit button when she has had enough)
When I need to burn my way through a snow berm and or get stuck real good.
PS; I all ways leave one level on the ride hight to get un stuck and back out.

Thanks for that. I will leave it on. Brakes are what I was concerned about. G

Default Well, if you RTFM...

...then the Manual will show you the way.*

*(ESP off for snow, usually, caveat, YMMV).

Default Re: I leave my esp on all the time, the only time it is off is

. . .the last two Audi driving schools in Austria employed Audi A4's equipped with ESP. On a variety of exercises, the ESP was "at the driver's option" -- we were given 4 passes at an exercise and we could try it with and without ESP.

Note: we were NOT permitted to pull up on the hand brake at any time.

Most people could not better ABS w/ESP+brake assist -- although some drivers were better at certain exercises with ESP off.

The instructors said under "real world" (not closed course exercises or races, that is) driving conditions that since ESP, ABS+brake assist are ever vigilant -- more so than is humanly possible -- ALL the time. The instructors, on road, would not be without these electronic assists.

Or perhaps they were just paid to say that.

I have tried to "beat" ESP (without the handbrake option, of course) and it is damn hard to do so.

My only complaint is that there needs to be perhaps more settings for when ESP gets involved in the action -- perhaps normal, low friction and agressive.

After my first experience with a car with ESP, I immediately traded out of my 2000 A6 4.2 and my 2000 TT coupe (my wife's technically) for two new 2001 Audis another A6 4.2 and another TT coupe -- because in 2001 these cars came "standard" with ESP.

My eyes were opened, that is, by ESP after two days of driving training with some of Audis best instructors. I don't think ESP is perfect and, shhh -- I do like to turn it off AND use the handbrake from time to time; but, not under normal, on the US highways and freeways, conditions. I can't keep up with ESP and ABS+brake assist -- and I doubt that many folks can AND sustain it!

But, I could be wrong.

agree, abs is no doubt an asset, I also think esp would be better if it had a less intrusive setting
