Default Ex-PzKW Cdr. ZF5HP19FLA question for you:

Who do you use to rebuild AR Tip trannies? After the replacement of my last one I have the busted core, and was going to send it to L10. Having read your reply to a post below regarding ZF rebuilds and L10's self-professed 'attention' to detail, now I'm not so sure. I'd value your insights on this. Thanks!

If you TIP trannies die frequently, maybe you should also check the MAF sensor ???

Currently I recommend no one. I purchase ZF rebuilds for installation.

Default A bad MAF sensor is not always report errors, especially for a dirty one or a non-linear one.

Several friends' AT with non-smooth shifting (clunking when shifting) or slipping clutchs (fault codes of incorrect gear ratio) were caused by the bad MAF sensor.

The following log data is a typical one. He replaced 2 AT in 6 months. Finally replaced the MAF sensor to solve the problem.
His bad MAF sensor looks good when below 100 g/s, but is bad when above 100 g/s.

Default Good to know! Thank you for your insight on this. May I ask...

...what your customers pay for said rebuilds from ZF? Apologies if this is an inappropriate forum to ask.

Now I'm wondering what to do with the busted transmission soon to be residing in my garage? Planter? Extreme doorstop? Overly effective paperweight? Maybe I'll just pull it apart so I can get a better idea of what resides inside.

Default Well you'll need it for a core on a rebuild. A rebuild runs around 3200, depending on

exact model.

Default Thanks again! I believe the trans was identified as an 'EYK'. Sound right?

Is the $3200 for ZF to do a proper rebuild? L10 quoted me $5K w/o shipping. BTW, I've only gone through one trans so far, but my warranty co (GL) only sprung for a 'like, kind, quality' unit so who knows what the heck's bolted to my engine now(!). Needless to say, I'm preparing myself for another trans at some point during my ownership, and I just want to be sure that I put the best piece of equipment in there that I can. Think a ZF rebuild will reliably handle an APR 93 Octane flash? I don't see going any farther than that with power upgrades. Everything else will be handling (H-Sports) and brakes (undecided).

Default Factory ZF rebuilders only do stock type rebuilds, BMW MB VW Audi and a few others all

use ZF boxes. M
