Exhaust mod
Anybody ever just chop off the exhaust just forward of the muffler then run straight pipes to the rear valance? I know it sounds like a 'ghetto midnight auto' job but I have seen this and heard the results. For about $150 I was impressed by the sound, not too loud but definately not stock, and the look was very clean.

For a $50,000 car?
I'm against it but I'm over 50 and enjoy driving a sleeper car that doesn't look or sound fast. For $150 you can try it out and if it doesn't work you can just put the original mufflers back on. I suggest slip on mounts with clamps instead of welding.

Re: Maybe $50k for U. $24k for me.
The modded car has an MTM chip and other various items done to it. This guy has access to vast resources so it isn't a money thing....... Just the reality of a great sound for $150 instead of $1200+

It isn't that crazy of an idea. The turbos act as a muffler of sorts. They quiet it down to the
point that losing the rear mufflers wouldn't make it sound like a top fuel dragster. Obviously the work could be completed with nice tubing and tips of his choice. No necessarily 100% ghetto. Perhaps somewhat ghetto though - I would have to hear it for myself.

The sound is very nice and still muted, but not stock.
Remember there are still turbos, pre-cats, cats and a resonator still quieting the exhaust.
I know mostly BMW exhaust notes and this is far quieter than all of what is available over there. BB, Borla, Magnaflow etc.....
The install is very clean. He used a VW/Audi exhaust sleeve/clamp to join the existing output to the straight pipes and has a very nice set of exhaust tips.
It is totally reversible. One would use the sleeve joint to re-attach the mufflers.
It is easy to sit back and take pot shots at this mod, especially if you have dumped $2k on a catback system.
I had my doubts to but after seeing and hearing I am going to do the same to my car. Call it a Nova, rice, whatever. From the valance panel you will not know the difference and your ear will be amazed.

Hmmm....codes may result..
Running straight pipes.. will lessen the back pressure.. and perhaps allow the turbos to spool up a bit faster.. BUT this may also be too little back pressure. Some back pressure is needed.. only trial and error will proove it out.

No fault codes have been triggered.
It has been running in this configuration for a couple of weeks. No fault lights. I must add the MTM chip gives this car an impressive amount of power.
