Happy New Year! All the best for 2009.
I have a 2004 allroad with 40K miles on it with CPO until May 2010. CPO came in handy in 2008, two front suspension replacements, CV boot, and rear hatch shocks.
I would like to obtain an extended warranty after the CPO expires. I live in Canada (more precisely Montreal), what do you recommend? I know you have them in the U.S., I wonder if the same exists here.
As always, thank you.

How many miles do you think you will have on it in 2010, when the CPO is set to expire?
Keep in mind you will be asking an insurer to insure (extended warranty is insurance) a car that is about 6 years old and has xxxxxx miles on it.

So the rates, terms, etc are always best when the car is youngest and has the least miles. For you, that means overlap with CPO.
So you could wait, but the risk there is that waiting negates the benefits....they raise rates, surcharge due to claims history, etc. A lot of people waited this past fall, and then my primary company jacked rates on Allroads and RS6's. AUL even killed the Allroad from eligibility.
And then if you go beyond certain age or mileage tiers, rates go up, terms go down, coverage lessens, etc.
Today, that car would qualify for a full exclusionary (including seals&gaskets and wear&tear) warranty, for 5 years, expiring 1/2014 or when the odometer reads 90K. Cost is $3465 with a $100 per visit deductible.
This assumes it's a 2.7T, if it's a 4.2 you can deduct $125 from that price.
Email me if interested in seeing the contract or further discussion at brucem105@comcast.net.
Happy new year all!
