External CD changer woes

So let me get this straight. There's a bracket in the rear for the cd changer, but no wiring? Anyone have any idea what the part number might be for the wiring? I wanted to use it with my NAV+ install, but now I'm sure not sure if it's worth it.

...just hidden. Remove tool box by hand, then remove screws to get black metal bracket out (6 screws, I think)
Wiring for factory cell phone and nav should be coming in from upper left (probably wiretied together with foam around connectors and clipped to back of bracket). The DIN plug for CD changer is coming in from upper left - end is also wrapped in foam.
It's sorta like playing hiden-and-seek... but with a DIN plug that's not hiding THAT well.
Be careful with those screws. If you drop one, you either gotta go fishing in the wax-filled cavern with a magnet or - if you're not so lucky - you'll have to pull the aluminum air compressor resevoir tank out to get at anything that slipped underneath it.

Audi stopped prewiring for the CD changer I believe from MY '02; I know for a fact that neither our '03 nor replacement '04 ARs had it. The cable you need is Audi part # 4B0-051-735-B, available from clairparts.com. Easy to route it from the head unit to the rear storage compartment (at least easy to watch the guy at the stereo shop I paid do it!).
The PhatBox DOES support Nav+ from what I've read, in fact if you get the latest 6.0 firmware it has a distinct radio type for the Nav+, though I've been told that the Symphony II radio type works better.
In terms of mounting the PhatBox, you *may* be able to fit it into the "cage" in the storage compartment, instead of mounting it exposed on the sidewall as Audi instructs. I have the old unit, bought direct from PhatNoise, which has a slightly different form factor than the newer one from Audi, so I can't say for certain for all situations, but in our '04 I was able to fit it into the middle slot where the CD changer would otherwise reside.
I had to cut the back of the mounting cage away and fab a bracket, and it's a very tight fit front and rear, but it fits in there, out of sight and out of danger from things sliding around in the back.
If you don't have the factory nav system, you could probably mount it to the bottom of the cage and not need to make as many modifications; assuming the Audi-sourced PhatBox is no deeper than the old one, it should fit fine there.
Hope this helps, if there is interest I can post pics.
