Finally Got My allroad - Question About ESP

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/2370/frederics.jpg"></center><p>Hi everyone,
Picked up my 2002 Atlas Gray allroad(looks silver in picture) last Sunday; having a blast getting to know the car.
I think I'm having a problem with the ESP. During spirited runs up the Angeles Crest Highway here in L.A., the ESP light will come on as well as the ABS and level warning light (though I can still manually change the ride height). Turning off the engine appears to reset everything and all seems well until the ESP hits some sort of limit, then the three warning lights come back on. Disabling ESP keeps the other two warning lights from coming on, but then what's the point of having the ESP. I can't duplicate the problem driving around town, only on the mountain roads it seems. Anyone else have the same experience?
Incidentally, (I think this has already been mentioned though) dealer tells me no more 2.7T for 2003, just the 3.0 at a lower price and the 4.2 at a much higher price.
Happy to have found this forum,
Frederic

I just got back from an off-road excursion in Angeles forest. Lovely as always. I was about to post about a problem I had on Angeles Crest Highway - on the way up & down. But Lo & Behold - Frederic had the exact same problem on the exact same highway. Frederic - I've not had this problem on Piuma Canyon or Topanga Canyon - or any other local road. This is so ODD!
We shall see if someone knows about this!

It's also just distracting, lights flashing, weird noises "you will be saved! the car will not slide! safety first!"

Coincidence? Perhaps not. Last Sunday, I experienced the tri-warning light problem on the way up and on the way down the Angeles Crest Hwy. I've not yet driven the Piuma or Topanga Canyon routes yet but have driven some equally challenging routes in an attempt to re-create the problem.
I drove Sunset Blvd., the twisty stretch past Beverly Hills and Bel-Air where the road narrows so much you actually get to use the power fold-back mirrors feature as you negotiate your way in between Hummers and thick brush. Up the 405 to Mulholland Drive, which is every bit as winding as the Angeles Crest. Back down Laurel Canyon, then up Fern Dell to the Griffith Park Observatory - ALL of it without any of the three warning lights coming on!!!
Yesterday, I did the Angeles Crest run again, and like clock work, virtually around the very same curve, BINGO, the three lights come on. I turn the ESP off and all is well up to the Mt. Wilson summitt.
What makes the Angeles Crest different from all other roads, lies at the summitt. The ridge is lined with an immense artificial forest of transmission towers - a sight to behold but pumping out Mega Watts of all sorts of EMF, RF and mystery stuff.
I know this affects your car's remote transmitters. In the case of a couple of Honda's I've owned, completely disabled the remotes as well as knocked out the 4-wheel steering function of my '92 Prelude 4SW (go figure), but I'm not exactly sure of how it might affect the ESP system. Grasping for straws to be sure, but Adam has had the same experience, and I have had the warning lights blues twice now - maybe more than coincidence.
As I was storming down the mountain, ESP turned off, an enthusiastic S4 driver going up the mountain flashed me the peace sign - the sound of double biturbos as we passed each other was glorious indeed.

True - the radio interference there is tremendous. Strangely - in taking the car offroading - getting stuck twice in some very soft dirt- and having equally as much fun in 4 wheel spin getting the car unstuck, nary the esp nor the ABS lights came on. What I did notice, however, was, when driving Angeles Crest, the lights came on only when engaged in cornering to the left. I noticed a blinking of the ESP then - bang - the triumvirate of lights turned on...
p.s. Frederic - if you (or anyone else in the l.a. area) feels like caravaning up Lynx Gulch (off of Little Big Tujunga) I'm always up for it - and yes your car gets dirty!
