Default that's what I was told as well...

...has anyone heard of "bench-flashing"? That's what one of the local indy shops told me that they'd have to do to my ECU. Still a bit confused about this.

Default I didn't even bother going back to stock mode when I brought the car in for service..

The technician could not even tell that I have both the GIAC flash and tip chip in the car.

Well, I insisted that I would go with her on the test drive so I suppose she couldn't floor it to tell the difference.

Default Haven't had that problem yet. Though some people have had him detune their X program....

for fear of cooking their K03s. The detuned program runs like the original "S" program which is about 66% of "X". I've been lucky and haven't have any problems or issues with the "X" program. As long as you change your syn oil every 4K and don't turn the car off after just racing the guy next to you down the highway, then you should be OK. The other issue is to make sure that your hoses are tight with no leaks and to either run 710Ns or any of the performance DVs as long as a tuner has tested their pressure settings so you don't spike your turbos. Don't want the turbo lady singing under the hood...!

-Soft flash of the engine ECU $595 + $50 install + $50 for Stock mode

-hard ECU change of the transmission ECU (for tip version) $300 + $50 install

-I am also having Diverter valves installed

Default My tech could tell just driving around the service building.

That's why I had to go back and get the handheld. It also good to detune it when the wife wants to takes the rest of the hens out for girls night out in Boston.

Default It's what AWE told me

Well I can only speak from personal experience so let me put it this way: Last week I specifically asked AWE for the GIAC Flashloader for my 2001 and the person I spoke to specifically said that the Flashloader did not work with the 2001 and my only option was to physically switch chips. So that is what I did.

Default Re: It's what AWE told me

I think they were referring to the TIP chip. From what I understand there are 2 chips... one for the engine and one for the tranny on the tip models. The engine chip is flashable and the tranny one isn't.

Default Do you have a '01 or an '01.5...? That's the only difference I can think of.

Maybe one of our learned colleagues can tell us if there is a difference between the two ECUs. Mine is a '01.5 and has been flashed and reflashed twice now. With no problems.... (fingers now crossed)

That said, how do you like the car with the X.

Still haven't figured that out yet? Did you speak to Ed again or AWE?
