Default ar cargo area is about the same length measured at the ceiling, longer at the floor.

My other car is a 2000 Passat wagon. The ar is also a touch wider inside, I think.

Default 2 English Mastiffs -- 350+ lbs

No problems, except loss of use of rear view mirror and LOTS of dog hair inside accompanied by twin exterior slobber trails down each rear door. After much trial and error, I found that 2 factory rubber mats cover entire rear area with both seats down (after trimming the lip off the narrow end of one, which fits under the other). I've fastened the rear most mat to the rear chrome trim picr eith the factory torx scews (so it doesn't slip around; the end of the trimmed mat slips under it),
