Gone but not forgotten
Had no choice but to swap out my wife's '01 AR this past w/e. Had 88k miles and was staring down the barrel of no less than $4g's or so for repairs/maintenance over the next 8 months (timing belt, both cats, valve cover gaskets, camshaft seals, headlight washer, brakes, tires plus any other suprises that may have been in store). In the end I just couldn't justify the cost I'm sad to say. Some extra space also wouldn't hurt, although its something I could have gotten past with a roof box if the repairs were not so pricey.
Thanks to all those who have helped/provided feeback. This is a great forum for a great car. I still have my A4 (soon to be S4 I hope), but my other car is now a japanese SUV - uggh. At least the wife likes it anyway. Thanks again to all. Cheers.

I'm in the same boat...
I have 87,00 miles on my '01 Tip and I'd rather use the $$ for a different vehicle instead of maintenance. Though I love my ar, I've driven it 4.5 years now and it's time for a change. I just put 4 new Falkens on it last month!
If you don't mind me asking, what did you get for trade in?
Anyone interested in a gently used black allroad?
Thanks!

Acura MDX
All in all I think it is a good value, has some extra room and a third row seat so the wife can transport neighborhood kids, etc. You don't get the performance, and interior materials are not quite the quality of the German cars, but still a good value I think. Although I don't particularly care for the exterior styling that much. At $38.5k for everything except navigation its tough to compare that to $50g's plus for equally equipped Lexus GX 470 or Audi Q7

Believe me
I wrestled with this decision for months - the wife thought I was insane. One day we were keeping it, the next we were getting rid of it. Until I finally went to a dealer to see what the "real" trade value was. I figured I could get about $14.5k if I was up to the task of selling it myself, so I had that number in my head. I managed to get $11.5k from the dealer on a trade - reasonable in my book - so I pulled the trigger. I feel good about financial choice, but bad about not having my AR any longer.

Re: The wifes seem to love the MDX. Not a bad ride but no AR for sure.
My wife has an MDX I bought her for the Holidays in 2004.
Great replacement for a minivan and a great deal for the money.
