Grrrr, I'm in the same boat as you allroadcole (wow, no pun intended).
I bought this car just after all the hitches got scooped up, and I'm already starting to think about boating season.
Maybe it's time to stop in at local dealerships as I pass them by...ask staff if possible to pull off an AR if it's equipped.

I was almost in the same "boat" I literally believe that I bought the last one.
I'm in PA and it was in CA. Luckily for me a fellow Aw'er was nice enough to pick it up and ship it to me.

You have no idea how persistant I have been...
dealers, junk yards, internet shops, parts depots... I've called ALL of them, in the US and canada... I also have RSS feeds set up for several craigslist's and saved searches on ebay.ca, ebay.de, ebay.co.uk and even ebay.com

It's not real urgent.. I have a full size p/u, but it's 2wd, gets TERRIBLE mpg, insurance just went up on it and it's getting old. I want to sell it and buy a trailer for the AR, hitch is the hitch
I really started looking for a hitch this november when we had snow on the ground for 3 weeks, my truck could not move...

That's what it took for me. I called the place that I bought it from twice. The first time
they said they didn't have it even though it showed up in the audi parts system. So I called them again, and BINGO
