Has anyone EVER figured out if firmer shocks can be installed, retaining the air springs?

I know about the coilover option, but what of just the H-sports and some bilstein or other, perhaps adjustable shocks to replace the OEM softies?
Does the car come with firmer shocks in europe or other markets?
Just curious. I tried to contact Continental Teeves a long time ago and never was able to get any answers. Just curious if anyone else has.
In light of the 'no more manual transmissions' stance from Audi, a modified allroad seems to be the only remaining hot ticket in all wheel drive avants, size medium/large anyway...
Anyone?

keep me in the loop. I can't wait for shocks with more compression and especially rebound dampening. Stock valving is just too soft. How I long for the good old days when I could pull a set of Bilstein off and send it to them to revalve to customer specs.

I like RMcQ's coilover, but I do like the ability to go up and down with my suspension and I am not sure I want to give that up...especially some of the places I take my allroad lately.
