So then, would the shocks from an 04, fit an 03, 02, 01, assuming they are valved differently?

$400 to $500 IIRC(don't remember if that is a pair or for 1)

Default I would love firmer air bags and different valving. I feel...

the stock shocks need about 20% more compression dampening and 30-40% more rebound. But the rebound issue may e more related to the bounciness of the rubber compound of the air bags.

Sachs may not be interested, but someone out there must be able to do the mods. In my old 930 days, I could take the stock stuts (Bilsteins) off and send them to Bilstein to be modified. They'd change the oil viscosity, the gas pressure, and the valving to whatever spec the customer wanted. And if the customer didn't knwo what was best, you could tell them the suspension mods and the driving style (street, track etc) and they'd make recommendations. All for about $100 per strut.

Default Add me to the list

when some hero steps up to the plate. The suspension dynamics are probably my biggest gripe with the car.

I know next to nothing about shocks, but as Ed suggested, I wondered if it was possible to simply change the oil viscosity rather than retool the valving.

Default I believe Bilstein still does. However, Sachs is the OE shock. It would be interesting

to send a set to Bilstein and see if they could do anything, though. That's why it would be nice to get a set off a wrecked car.

If I already owned an allroad, I would be doing just that. call around to the wrecking yards around the country and find a set. Anyone game?
