Default Agree on being unacceptable. This ZF trans @ 50K miles is the sloppiest shifting

transmission I've owned. My 200K mile Range Rover is tighter even with a worn transfer case chain. Former 300K mile Honda shifted better. A bit surprised at ZF, normally the best powertrain supplier out there.

Default Mine does it too. I just assumed I caught the transmission flat-footed.

I don't know that it's a flaw, exactly, just a point where it's doing one thing and you ask it to do something else. I can induce it at will, knowing where it is. It can't be good for the transmission, and it is annoying, but I've had other cars do the same thing under the same circumstances.

Still, make sure they check and/or change the fluid under warranty because of it. Not a cheap or easy thing to do.

Good luck.

Default I'm glad you brought this up ...

When I first noticed this I took it into my indy and it was actually engine mounts. There were two that were leaking. During stop and go the engine was basically shifting a bit. Had them replaced under my extended warranty and everything seemed good.

That being said, several months ago I was at 303Motorsports in Denver and they found that my tranny fluid was down a quart as well. They filled it up (expensive stuff!!) and it was doing great.

I've noticed the clunk a bit more lately, so I guess it's time to do a VAG check and see what the fluid levels are at. I've never seen a single leak from the car (2001 86K 2.7t) so it will be interesting to see what I find.

Ours did it once. Took to dealer; found two leaking motor mounts. Replaced same. Now fine.
