Default Hello everyone, visiting from the A6 board, question, Anyone here a former A6 Avant/ Sedan owner....

If so, why did you go with the Allroad, what do you like about it. What do you miss about the A6 Sedan, what made you choose it over the Avant.
Thanks in advance,
Don

Default For me price wasn't much more than A6 Avant- I can lower it to ....

A6 height or raise it to nearly the same ground clearance as my Suburban that it replaced. If weather or pot holed streets was not a concern the A6 would do fine. Allroad is best of both worlds- near SUV utility and near luxury sedan
ride.

Default Re: Traded 200 HP Avant on allroad.

We had an A6 Avant that we traded on a '01 Allroad. The first A6 wagon only had 200 HP which was not enough. Audi was running a special lease deal on the ar and we liked the extra 50 HP, it made a pretty big difference. We've never needed to use the adjustible suspension and we leave it in position 2 unless it's a longer highway trip and we lower it to 1. If you live in an area that gets lots of snow or if you want to take it offroad the adjustible height is the way to go. I would think the Avant or allroad would have beter resale value than a sedan and I can't imagine it drives significantly worse than the sedan. Having the extra cargo space is nice.

I have had two A6's. The first was a 1999 which was very comfortable and reliable but also very slow. I replaced it with a 2003 3.0 CVT. This is a much better car. It is much more responsive and gets much better mileage(23mpg Vs. 18.5mpg). It isn't a quattro, but hopefully the traction control will get me through the winter. I also have a 2003 allroad. It replaced a 2001 S4 coming off lease. I liked the S4 but wanted more room. I also looked at the 3.0 Avant. I chose the allroad because: 1) It is faster. 2) The cost difference was small. 3) The allroad rode better and had adjustable suspension. 4) The allroad had better seats with higher quality leather. I have had the allroad for 4 months and am still pleased with my choice.

Default I went from a '96 A6 avant to allroad....

which had 172hp and slushbox only. I wanted a manual transmission, above all else. I was looking for a 95-96 S6 avant which were hard to come by with low miles. I drove the allroad and was hooked. Same cargo volume and luxury as A6, but much more performance. Given the choice, I would delete the air suspension, but after two years, I do admit that it has been useful on many occasions. I leave it in 1 or 2 most of the time.

I have owned several other Audis, including a couple 4000's, 5000tq, A4 tq and the A6. This one is probably my favorite (although the 5000 was a hell of a car).

Default As my sig says, I went from a '98 A6Q to the allroad...

We had our first child and needed a wagon. Didn't want an A6 Avant because of the lack of power.
Couldn't afford an S6.
thus allroad.

What do I miss? The sedan is quieter, the Bose in the sedan sounded better, the sedan with the sport suspension handles better than the air suspension in the allroad. But there is no such thing as an A6 2.7 Avant, or I'd have gotten that.

Love the allroad. And I have no regrets about the decision.

Had a 99 A6 avant. The AR suspension and engine did it for me!
