Default Hello longtime friends, I finally did end up buying the VW Touareg...

So as many of you know, I sold my beloved 2001 allroad for a more practical VW 20th Anniversary GTI for commuting. Well, my wife hasn't been too thrilled with carrying around two kids and their associated "stuff" in an Acura TL, so I decided to get her a Touareg for Christmas. I signed the docs yesterday and will deliver it to her on the 24th as a surprise, but here are some pics of an identical model from a VWVortexer.

I'm interested to see how I like the VW over the allroad and will post my findings here. I did get the underpowered V6 rather than the V8 and from my test drives, there is no comparison in performance... allroad hands down. The V8 was awesome, but I just couldn't justify the added cost, especially with this being my wife's daily driver and the fact that she'd probably enjoy a Touareg with a 1.8T engine if it were offered. :-)

More to follow... I miss the chatter with y'all and I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy Holidays!!!

Default Reverse of What I Did

Well, she'll like it. I've been unable to decide between the Touareg and Allroad (for my daily driver) and finally concluded the V6 Treg was way underpowered for my taste, the AR was to fun to drive and the V8 Treg put me in excess of the cost of an 03 AR. So, I signed the paperwork for an AR Friday--2003 Cobalt Blue 2.7T, Premium, Bose, Cold Weather. Couldn't find a 6 speed so had to do tip, 6 speed next time! She'll like the Treg--its a nice ride. Crossing my fingers, but sure I'll like the AR and look forward to getting to know some of you!

Default i just traded in my 2001 allroad for the touareg too

i got my touareg last weekend and immediately drove it up to tahoe in a snowstorm.
it handled ok but the tires sucked in my driveway and i had to get a tow truck to get me out the next day
i had just put dunlap m-3s on the allroad before i traded it in (i know i jumped the gun but i didnt know about the tax advantage on the touareg at the time) the audi is a much better vehicle and with the dunlaps it could climb a mountain in the snow. i just ordered snowtires for the touareg (they dont make dunlaps in my size so i bought the pirelli scorpion ice and snow. i hope they are ok but anything is better than the sucky continentals that came with the touareg.
i miss the allroad already, i had 47 k on it without one problem not even one. i have to bring in the touareg tomorrow morning already as the alarm went off today and wont stop. i cant lock it. also the tranny sounds like it is whining.
i had to make a decision on the allroad as i either had to buy an extended warranty at about 3500 bucks or trade it in and get the tax savings the 6000 lb touareg offered for the section 179 write off. i opted for the write off after talking with my accountant. i sure hope the toureg isnt a lemon. i got the v-8 and it has a lot more power than the 2.7 allroad but is a heavier vehicle. i still am getting used to it.

Default Allroad to A4 quatrro cab

took the early lease end (nine months). didn't really need two avants. will wait for the new body A6. i live in wisconsin and hadn't used the allroad suspension levels except to show people how cool it was. otherwise i loved the allroad for 34k miles..

You will definitely like the allroad. It drives great and has lots of great gadgets. Sorry you won't have the heated steering wheel like our '01 ar.

If you haven't taken delivery yet get the dealer to give you a credit and get some decent tires. The Pirelli P6 allroads and the Goodyears that come stock both suck.

I recently switched to Falken Ziex ZE-512's and so far they are great. Nice ride, low noise, good handling, W rated, 30k tread warranty, and about 1/2 the cost of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Also rate #1 by Consumer Reports in a recent test.

Default kudos to the Falkens.

there are a few of us running them on this board so far. We've only had one minor snow so far in St Louis, so no serious duty reports, but they certainly outgun the Pirellis (stockers swapped out at 36,000 when I took delivery on my new-to-me allroad).

Default I will try....

However, unlikely as the 03 I'm buying was a dealer demo (driven by finance manager I believe--about 4k miles) so doubt they'll give me any credit for the tires or do any swapping. And yes, I was thinking about this based on my reading here. If not, looks like I'll have to wait awhile and step up for some new shoes in the future!
