Default Hitch wiring adapter parts source? bdeneen installed your Curt yet?

I think I'm looking for part# ZAW808003
as listed here:
http://www.allroadfaq.com/content/hitch_faq.shtml
Small note, by my count there are 13 pins on the vehicle, not the 12 listed in the FAQ.

I've tried these sources:
http://www.genuinevwaudiparts.com/ and https://www.1stvwparts.com/
Both say the part is NLA.

I'd rather not cut or tap into the harness if I can avoid it. Assuming a kit in NLA everywhere, does anyone know of a source for plugs and pins so that I could wire my own adapter?

The Towequipe website lists a 13 pin kit, but I have no idea what the kit does (I suspect it provides a 13 pin connection rather than adapting it).

Towequipe web site

Default Try going to a dealer... I heard the Q7 have the same plug. Check it out..

Also, I have heard that land rovers use the same plug too... Good Luck.

Default fyi, many trailers (like mine) have mechanical brakes. no need for any brake related wiring.

when the car brakes the tongue on the trailer pushes back into the master cylinder on the trailer, applying the perfect amount of braking force...

you probably already know this. but if so why would you rather have an electrical brake? Seems like the mechanical method would work better to me, because there is no signal to interpret, when the car brakes hard the trailer brakes hard, simple and sweet.

ahh... as I'm typing this I just thought of a great reason for an electric brake! backing down a hill

Or backing *up* a hill. But overall I like surge brakes too.

Default Not well... Q7's had no plug, Rover's not visible...

The Q7's had a blanking plate where the connector would go. The hitch was installed, but no wiring - seems odd - maybe it allows the customer to choose their connector of choice?

Speaking to the mechanics, Q7's are wired for the standard 7-pin round plug, as are all recent Rovers.

A Rover mechanic suggested looking on the Atlantic British web site for parts for a Series 1 Range Rover (circa '94), the poor quality image isn't too helpful, but it looks like it converts from an odd 7-pin round to flat 4-pin connection.

Atlantic British

Default Yea that doesn't look good at all. Can you source a EU one and rewire the end that

mates to the trailer with a standard flat 4 pin?

I know you can buy the 4 pin flat connector at most automotive stores.

Default That's the direction I started looking...

I figure I should buy the 13-pin male end (maybe from a place linked) and the 4-pin flat and make my own adapter.

The pinouts for the 13-pin connector is:

Default Sorry for the late response on this. I have actually been working at my job!

I ran into the same problem and decided to simply use some standard round elec push in pins and insert them into the appropriate connection. Then I used a standard 'separate blinker' to 4 pin trailer converter. $5 at fleet-farm. Here are the pins and the cap of the plug has the labels on it.

1 - Left Blinker
2 - Running Lights
3 - Common/Ground
4 - Right Blinker
6 - Brake Lights

I will do something a little more permanent later but this was very easy for the time being.

Here are some pics of the hitch.
