Did is last night, easy easy. Wow what an immediate difference. Deffinately a must for spirited driving, not sure for about town though. Will hang tight and see how big my bicepts get.

...it's just not boosted at lower speeds.
The discussions of this have suggested that the 628 was a compromise between no relay and the earlier one, the 605 (which my car came with and I pulled -- I think the change to 628s happened with the '02 or '03 models). The 605s boosted things at low speeds a lot and even some at highway speeds--the car steered like a one-finger Cadillac or something.
Without (either) relay, the steering is a tad heavier, particularly when parking and so on, but I've never thought it difficult in any sense. But the road feel is way better.
And, um, if no relay constitutes a biceps workout, well, I reckon it's time to hit the gym anyway. HPH

no not totally manual but at low speeds or stopped it is highly stepped down. Very noticible, but significantly better when at speed.

HPH, i have had my right shoulder re-built in December and single arm turning is most definately something that I feel at least for now. Not buff, but not a weakling either. Cheers

The article below indicates the 605 relay ("Servotronic") was an option in Europe, so obviously Audi expected most drivers to be happy with the non-Servotronic feel. Apparently, they perceived the American market as requiring a lighter feel and made Servotronic standard.
I wasn't aware of the change from the 605 relay to the 628. It's possible (but seems unlikely) that the base steering response was changed at the same time, so 4labsonthego may be be experiencing a different feel in his 628-less 04 than I am in my 605-less 01. But I find the non-Servotronic feel to be "normal" and the Servotronic to be numb. OK, pulling out of a parking spot, I have to grip the steering wheel pretty hard if my hands are sweaty, but no big deal.

Servotronic steering relay

...but I remember the day I picked up my allroad and drove home -- intentionally on a (sort of) twisty two-lane road rather than the Interstate.
I was happy with everything except for two little matters: it started to rain and, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to turn on the rear window wiper. I hadn't bothered to RTFM at the dealership.
And the lightweight, no-feedback steering almost made me turn around and take it back. My very first mod was to take out the 605 relay -- quite exciting, actually, reaching into the guts of a new, $45K car and ripping parts out. HPH
