AoA needed to put its marketing resources behind the Q7. The new allroad being sold in Europe would compete in price with the Q7. The rumor mill has it that the allroad will be here in late 07 as an 08. Perhaps without the adjustable suspension. This will keep the cost down.
If you search the archives you will find a few bits of communication between the allroad forum and the Head of AoA with regard to the future of the allroad. IMHO, its rumored import to the US in 08 is a direct result of this forum's
pro-active involvment.

I never drove the Q7 much less the new ar.
The ar also never sold very well as there was no reall push for it. Now its the right vehicle for the US as 'uber wagons' are in vogue and SUVs are loosing share.
Time will tell. We could get a surprise and it will come early. Bbut with the Q7 and the Q5 and all the other changes to AoA..including their desire to move UPSACALE (increase price) who knows.
But..with Porsche now being the majority share holder...Could get an allroad with a stick even?

very fuel efficient and environmental friendly Technology was invented by Mercedes-Benz and has been taken on by the rest of the German Manufacturers.
With any luck, we might get it over here since MB, BMW and others are planning already US deliveries.
Paul's assessment is right on target, perhaps in 2008 we could see the return of the allroad here.
The official (German) Audi Press statement to conclude the year 2006 could give some pointers here; stagnation of sales on the US market is expected by Audi's view at 2007/2008.
The only Market that will dislpay most of the growth is China, so we'll have to watch how the Q7 does over there because it will have impact on future Marketing Strategies and model line-up.
To bring the allroad w/o Air suspension is (IMHO) kind of lame, not to say stupid. One of the main features and reasons why people chose the ar is the air suspension.
And since the SUV market shows strong tendencies to decrease, you should keep your hopes up of getting another model allroad, at least I do ;-)
