Default Its easy...
Fold down the rear seats and slide it to the right and it will pop off its holders. May take a little tug.

Default Its also to keep objects from hitting you in the head in the event of a bad accident. I always
put it up when I have a lot of junk in the trunk.

It also helps to support the seat backs. I wouldn't remove it from the car unless truly necessary.

Default I found it necessary to mount a child seat behind the driver side because I could not get the belts
behind this unit on the passenger side w/o removing the unit from the car. The passenger side makes a lot of extra work if you ever want to remove the child seat temporarily.

Default I rarely use the cargo net. I find the buckle system much more cumbersome than the...
elastic one in my A4 which I use all the time.
