Default How involved is changing out the heater core on the 2.7T?

Mine bit the dust yesterday, and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth hiring someone else to deal with it, considering the rest of my month is very busy. I don't want to assume that the Bentley would enable me to make an accurate assessment; it always makes things sound like they should take about half an hour.

Default Well, I drove to a gig, shut down the car, started it up again five minutes later to move it and

the windshield and front windows immediately steamed up with thick, heavy fog and the air smelled of coolant. I drove home with the HVAC off and kept the windows cracked so the windshield wouldn't fog up (not fun at -6 F), and as I got home I turned the HVAC on again with the same result almost instantly. My best guess was that it's a leak, but if y'all think a flush would fix it, I'm all for that.

Default Yep, sounds like a leaking core.

You could try some Bar's Stop Leak, but it's kinda hit-or-miss. And the expansion tank doesn't really have flow, so if you go that route, you might need to pop off a radiator hose and dump it in there. It works well for slow leaks, but if it fogged up fast,... you might have too big of a leak.

I don't have my Bentley manual with me here in SE Texas, but yeah, they make EVERYTHING sound like it takes half an hour. Good Luck, Troy.

Default Yeah, I have a bottle of Bar's Heavy Duty sitting here, but it would be a

temporary fix at best. Given the weather right now and all the other **** I have to deal with, I'm leaning toward shelling out the dough to make it someone else's problem.

You sure picked the right time to be in Texas - highs will be below 0 again today.
