Dropping the car to have S4 HP2 calipers installed with PBR pads. The indy has not done this to an allroad before so he is in the mode of let's see if this works. He likes the idea since there are no aftermarket pads other than OEM for the 2 pad calipers.
My question is if the HP2s are better why did Audi change the allroad in 2002? Was if a business decision (cheaper cost) or technical?

And having owned several allroads, with and without the HP2's I can say in my experience there is no benefit to the HP2's other than the pads are twice as much with the HP2. Pad surface area changes very little, and the swept area of the rotor stays the same. YMMV

Here's one example. I'm sure there are others.<ul><li><a href="http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D2A1001%2DA">http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D2A1001%2DA</a</li></ul>

The indy has had numerous noise problems with Mintex and pulled from most A6s he installed. We were not able to find a PBR pad for the 02 2 pad allroad. Main reason for the change is more pad selection. Already have PBR pads on the rear. Trying to reduce dust and improve brakes.

Ex-PzKW you know I love you man but really? "And having owned several allroads, with and without the HP2's I can say in my experience there is no benefit to the HP2's"
I have owned one allroad with fnrg60's swapped to HP2 and I've driven many more with the fnrg60 and the pedal feel has always been sucky in those cars compared to the HP2 equipped.

It reduces the pedal feel, but ramps up the boost very quickly. I don't like the nonlinear feel of it, a least a couple of people have switched out the booster and master, but I think there is an electronic component in the ABS system as well. I have adapted to it so, it no longer bothers me, but you are correct the feel is MUCH different between the systems, but the stopping power is the same. I have noticed that the rotors last much longer than the HP2 system between warping. The S4 guys have had numerous pad and rotor problems with the HP2 melting the pads, under heavy usage. This has been attributed to the fact the individual pads are smaller and heat build up is caused by the reduction in heat sink effect. The HP2 calipers have one of the highest clamping pressures of a production OEM brake system, possibly too high.

and having Audi replace them. I believe this was mostly with the 01 and early 02 allroads (HP2). So under normal driving is this an issue? Don't plan to track this car any more.

I rarely get complaints from 03 and on owners.Get QUALITY rotors, though, not white box from anyone!
