Default HP2 vs non-HP2 MY rotors- what's the difference?

So, I'm busy gathering the parts for upgrading the 2002's fronts to HP2, and the rears to S4 w/ a8 rotors. Looking at several vendors, I see two different front rotor choices for the allroad, based on year/vin. I asked one vendor:

>
> I have a 2002 allroad 6sp, which unfortunately doesn't have HP2 front
> brakes. I'm having a set of s4 front calipers rebuilt, and plan to use
> those for the upgrade.
>
> What's the difference in the rotors for 4B3 615 301 vs the regular DBAs?
> Is it just the caliper change near the end of the 2002 MY, or is there
> something else that changed, like the spindle/hub?

and they replied:

"We are not sure what the exact differences are. Honestly, we never really took the time to look. We think it's the hub design."

Any insight into upgrading from non-HP2 to HP2 and selecting the correct rotor for this application appreciated...

Default Did you see this one? Kind of older post but in some way it explains about the HP2 advantage

Default Nope, hadn't seen it yet. But I already know the HP2 are better than what I have stock :)

...just need to make sure of what rotors I need before ordering them.

Default I have a set of the old dba rotors that RobYSo gave to me that you can have if you want.

He said they vibrated pretty bad with (mintex)iirc pads. Sam (ex kommmandant guy) had the same problem with those rotors (not sure what pads he tried). We could meet up at Sams shop 1 weekend, if you want, to talk about allroads, and if you wanted the rotors I could bring them along. I have the 2 piece ECS rotors for the front of my allroad with HP2 calipers, and carbotech bobcat pads.

Default Meeting at Sam's sounds fine (I'm in the western 'burbs, where are you?)

I expect to buy new rotors (don't mind, especially since my goal is to have brakes that I don't need to f' with for a couple of years), but seeing another ar w/ HP2s would be a nice benchmark to compare my not-yet-HP2'd to.

Default I'm in the poconos, you emailed me about that didn you? I drive down a couple of times a year to bug

Sam. We'll set something up on a weekend he doesn't have his kids. If you are the 1 who emailed about the rear brakes(which I think you are) we can discuss that too.
