Well actually they can from a mechanical standpoint..but they will warp pretty fast.
So my NJ Turnpike Autobahn driving and commuting have put 2K miles on my freshly cut rotors with the Redbox pads. Front only.
I was playing with an older M5 (I was playing..he must have been sleeping)and the V1 went off.
I'm at 90mph+ and hit the brakes. Let's watch the steering wheel shake....
Normal <60 stopping is fine, no real vibes..pehaps a little..but not much.. but over 60 and its a big shake...
OK..Zimmermans here I come.

Never resurface rotors...
That's a kludge from when manufacturing processes sucked more and rotors were more expensive... turnign the rotors down remove metal, making the rotors even more prone to warpage (as you've seen...)
Rotors are so cheap now, I almost always replace pads and rotors as a unit... the only exception I've had in two years is the brake job I'm going to do this weekend -- 2003 Olds Alero where the girl has no money, so I'll slap a set of $25 AutoZone pads on instead of the $175 the for which the Olds dealer was going to charge (rape) her.

I came from the days when turning rotors was the norm...
Even my 02 explorer had em turned. But I learned with the Audi..now that I'm paying. My shop only took $70 to install my pads and turn the two rotors. I'l order two new ones..Zims I suppose and let my son install them. I also have a striped thread..in the rotor. so this too will be solved.
