If I could find OE Hitches for about $575 plus shipping who would want one?
I found a parts supplier in Germany and have emailed back and forth. Here is the latest email from him. I wonder if there is any diff. between the euro and the US model. His contact info is below
"thanks for asking.
Of course I can offer you a trailer hitch for your Allroad.
It is a brand new one, made by the genuine OE manufacturer "Westfalia" and it is removable.
The German list price is 458,15 EUR, your price is 291.- EUR.
You will need the e-set as well, list price 267,75 EUR, your price 155.- EUR.
Let me know if you are interested, I will get you a shipping quote after.
To compare the price, you can search on German Ebay, type in " allroad anh?nger* ".
The cheapest one is 439.- EUR WITHOUT e-set.

I don't know, I just found this guy through the web and just started
sending emails in the last coupe days. I'm guessing on the 1-10 scale that install is about an 8. I say this because you need to remove bumper (from what I've read) and that the dealer says it's a 7-8 hour job. That said, a good indy could prolly do it in 5 or so.
I can ask if instructions are in English, or feel free to send him an email (his website and addy in in the top message)
here is my disclaimer. . .
I do not know this gentleman or his company. I only know that others, like myself, were looking for an avenue for OEM hitchs. I thought I would pass the word along in case anyone wanted to look into it further.

Re: I also e-mailed a company in the UK a while back that sold the Westfalia
tow bar, they stated it should work. Sent another e-mail direct to Westfalia in Germany, they stated it would not fit the US version of the allroad. Don't remember the price but here is the website, PN 305225

htt p://www.edworthys.co.uk/prodlist~catID~3976~product_category~Audi.htm</a

I'd be interested, if it's a Class II hitch and not Class I, so I could tow over 2,000 lbs. I've heard that European hitches have different receivers than those in the US. Does this hitch come with the receiver too?

Is this the hitch he's offering?
http://stores.channeladvisor.com/towbar/items/item.aspx?itemid=3586195
If so, it's only rated up to 2300 lbs. and 95 lb. tongue weight, so it's not really stronger than the cheap Class I hitches we can get here in the States.
