Default Ignition Coil Failure help

Hello,

My CEL came on and started flashing and car misfires running rough foul smell etc.. drove it home maybe 5 miles. So I assumed one of the Coils had failed. With no VAG tool I pulled each coil and started the car trying all six with no luck? Question is... Could one of the spark plugs be fouled?

Maybe one of the coils is still bad but I could not tell because the failed coil fouled the plug?

Any help would be great!! I live 25 miles from ay real german auto repair and towing is 150.00!!

Thanks again!

Get yourself the free version of bag-com plus a cheap $10 cable from Amazon.

You mentioned plugs... Did you pull them out?

What year and engine is your car?

That was meant to say VAG-COM, not bag-com. Damn autocorrect.

Yeah, ^ I am assuming you have the BEL 2.7L engine correct? when were the plugs and/or CPs replaced last?

Wow, yeah you might want to get new plugs in there, if you are stock, people have gone with either; (NGK)BKR6E which are effective but would have to replace more often, all the way up to running the best option for the 2.7engine which are (a little more expensive but you dont have to replace them often) the NGK Laser Platinum PFR6Q (#6458).

PS: If it's an '02, then you have the APB engine code and not the BEL. Your coil packs, are they just push down type or bolt down type? (Should be bolt down type)..

Also, if it's running rough, and the CEL flashes? It sounds like one or more of the Coil Packs are needing replacement, the way you check those is swap them between cylinders to see if there is a difference in idle/RPMs. this should tell you if that particular CP is the culprit.

Not much help right now but there was an Audi recall on the ignition coils in the 2.7 ar--once you get it going again call your Audi dealer and see about getting them replaced for no cost.

This IS great help, and good to say but the ones that were recalled are the pop-in ones not the bolt on's IIRC. In essense,He would have to have a BEL 2.7 engine for them to be replaced for free.
