Interesting hitch discussion I just had with AoA...

First, they were able to plug into the inventory of every dealer in North America as well as their parts depots to look for a hitch. Of course, none exist. So they checked for the NA part number in Europe just in case there were some in stock over there that never made it here. Ditto.
I asked if they had the ability to import one of the Euro hitches, as available through a dealer over there. They said absolutely no, had never been certified as compliant with standards here. The NA hitch was tested in conjunction with the rear end impact capability of the car, the Euro one hasn't been. They even went so far as to suggest that importing a Euro hitch could inpose a liability on one of us since we've effectively altered the crashworthiness of the car.
I then asked if I could have the name of the company that made the hitch for the NA cars, and they said probably not but would look into it. Not holding my breath.
Just thought I'd pass it along.
