Expenses are way up. Claims are way up. Who do you think pays for the 24/7 customer service? It costs big $$$. Not to mention a $300 million advertising campaign. The auto insurance market is very soft here in NY which means low rates if your credit is great and it's even better if you "bundle" your homeowners with it (something GEICO cannot do as they don't insure homes). Some of the best auto rates available to the general public come from Hanover, Travelers, Encompass, and Kemper and yes, these companies will pay your claim fairly. Amica and USAA are excellent as well. Homeowners insurance is a different story all together....get ready for some huge rate increases coming (ins co's worried about the BIG hurricane hitting NY so they're stock piling your premiums so they don't go out of business).
