OK... I know this topic has been discussed a bunch of times and I was able to pick pieces of info here and there. So I'm just thinking out loud.
I know the AR's come with K03's, I was told by someone that they were hybrids but I'm sure they were wrong.
What is absolutely needed to add K04's to an allroad? I wanted to do a direct swap with no changes to the DP's, fuel delivery etc... just the turbo's. Is this doable? Or is the hybrid the better way to go.

I think K04s are a direct bolt on. The only thing you will need is the larger K04 intake kit.
If I am not mistaken, the K04s will even work without issue on a stock ECU.
Now, if you really want to take advantage of the K04s, then you will need to upgrade all the parts you mentioned and then some...

Gavin

IMO there is little reason to do KO3/K04 hybrids if you are going to go through all the labor to swap turbos you might as well get the benefits of putting the larger K04 housings in there. With the inlet pipes they bolt right up.
It would also be stupid not to at least do Piggie Pipes (gutting downpipe pre-cats) while you are in there to make sure that the K04s can flow. This is just labor though - not really an expense.
So just the inlet pipes and you can run K04s on stock fueling and your GIAC code. From there you could consider the low cost Darintake mod and you certainly are going to want a cat-back exhaust.
The cool thing is that you can go homebrew from there for modest money. Some Ford green top injectors, a new FPR, some Lemmiwinks tweaks, a MBC, and at some point intercoolers and you are pushing over 450hp if you have the time/energy to tune it.

You can not find something "floating around" in the A4 forum. Try the S4 forum if you like. There was a super duper group buy at christmas time and some guys bought some proactively who might resell them. keep and eye on the classifieds too.
personally I don't think I would consider anything except new in box given the labor involved.

You can "plug" in the K04s and go, but you WILL need new inlet pipes with the K04s. You don't need ECU changes, but you won't get the max performance out of them.
I have K03/K16 hybrids on my S4. That's a different story for another day.
