Default Latest Saga on my 04 Allroad from Carmax

After fixing Torque Converter, Carmax paid local guy to replace TPMS controller (Import Euro). They said car drove well adn was tight (said they drove 80 miles?? But they noticed sounds from bell housing so back to tranny shop. They offered yto sell me a Gray 43k 2004 AR and drop the price $500 but I think I'll stick with the AR if they can fix tranny sound. Other option is an 04 2004 4.2 with 51k, but the mileage scares me.

Default You are making a mistake. You sound like you are emotionally invested...

...in the car, which I would understand if you had lots of great times in it, drove away from the church in it with cans dragging behind after you got married, etc.

But it's a new-to-you AR, and it has tons of problems and you haven't owned it for a week. Of course they want to fix everything and will tell you it's "tight".....you think they want to take it back and deal with it again?

You should cut your losses and move on. It's a VERY rare thing to buy a lemon, yet have the ability to get out of it clean with a full refund. These cars are for sale all over......find a better one. it's not like it's an RS6 and they only have a few hundred...and even those are easy to find!

You've been warned; trust me on this, keeping this car is a mistake. Give me one good reason why you would keep it and not just find another one?

One good reason...How about $1,365 reasons, the cost for sales tax I'll have to pay to buy another AR from someone else...

Second, the TC problem I'll inherit from someone else..

Third, if the TC and TMPS are common problems does that necessarily make this car a lemon

Fourth, the tight comment came unsolicited from the independent repair shop commenting on how the car road.

Of course, you could be right.

Locally these are rare..

Default There still a sales tax issue if you do a return/swap with carmax? A 4.2 w/ 51k doesn't sound ...

... that bad, though you'll have some challenges if you want to get an aftermarket warranty (since it's over 50k).

When you return goods, tax is returned, too. What do you mean? (Run from this car.)

Default In this case, I'd opt for the 4.2 with 51 over a 2.7 with 43... and either over the devil you know

Bell housing noise? 80 miles of test driving? This isn't okay. It's some guy getting paid $40 and hour to drive your car around all day.

Start over. Get out if you can.

Default Run. Very fast....

test drive and consider the 4.2. I would ditch that 2.7T though - back again -- forget about it. The 2.7T tip is a dime a dozen - why take one with known problems thats been tough to fix. Just doesn't make sense in way you look at it.

I don't think you should keep it. And just so you know any other vehicle will have trips to the shop.
IMHO being an allroad thats trips x3 so the real Q are you fit to own such a car.
I get that it all happened right away. After all its used.
I have over 20 visits under CPO and min 10 DIY repairs I've done. Don't get down. Just find the right answer to the problem. Even if its a BMW or MB or else.

Good luck...
