Latest Saga on my 04 Allroad from Carmax

Cross country transport is ~$600, and people will eyeball local cars for you...expand your search!

(Your car is the one on the right....just kidding!)
For $150 PPI and an AR forum member to look/drive and report back for a nice bottle of wine, you will do much better looking nationwide.
Don't understand tax issue..you should get 100% refund.
Again, looking at it as an objective 3rd party, your car now nearly qualifies as a lemon. If I had a lemon and could dump it and find something else, I would in a heartbeat.
And the fact that it's "tight" means nothing..any AR with those miles taken care of is tight.

MJ....if I recall this is your 2nd allroad...
The old addage is never go for three. From the frying pan and into the fire.
It would seem to me if you can get 100% of you money back run from Carmax. And do some of your own research and find something that is known not to be problematic. While the 4.2 is a touch bettter in realiability than the 2.7. you sitll have to wonder about where Carmax is getting the beasts and what their history is.

honestly, if an audi with 51K miles on it frightens you...why continue to
buy the brand? 51K miles is nothing really. Unless you heavily modify the car, it should last a long time, if you keep up with all your services.
I would go with the 4.2 if it were me, longer engine reliability over the 2.7T, IMHO.

Sales Tax, MaxCare, Lemon responses

First the sale stax issue relates to the fact that they bought my A4 and I get full credit on the trade-in so if I walk I lose the credit worth $1,350.00.
I was going to buy an extended warranty, and if they will provide the MaxCare warranty at a substantial discount I will consider it.
Two issues do not a lemon make imho. The TC is a known defect in all 2001 - 2004 Audis. Even has a TSB. And wonky TPMS is also common. Otherwise car was a one owner well maintained car with a full service history.
My biggest whine is due to immaturity..I want my toy now, and having it taken away after five days and waiting 3 week...
I also don't expect these cars to be perfect, my last AR (an 03 CPO) spent time at the dealer including one 35 day trip that resulted in a whole new steering rack.
That said I probably will walk unless they offer me something and drive my 00 M Roadster to work until the right AR comes along.

You can get your M roadster back if you unwind the deal...
...although that's not optimal, I realize.
If you think the car is solid except for those two issues, then make them an offer.
Give you the Maxcare at no charge (FREE), or unwind the deal. I'd say there is a better than 50% chance they'll do it.
Good luck!

You don't have to worry about the TC issues on the 4.2 or very late 2.7T's
I'd walk from this deal. It sure sounds like you're inheriting someone elses problem.
I've owned both tips and I'd choose the 4.2 easily. If you're sticking with the tip, keeping the car relatively stock, and looking for reliability/longevity, to me the 4.2 is the choice.
As someone mentioned, check to see if the 51k is a real thorn (if you want an extended warranty). If not, and if for the same money, I'd take it over a 43k 2.7T tip.
I agree with everyone else; you don't want to chase $$$s in a problem car.
If these guys can't fix it, and you can still walk from the deal, that might a better choice. I've never heard of someone holding on to sales tax from a returned sale. If so, report them to your state tax board.
Feel for you. Just make a smart choice that is easy to live with.
Good luck!

Just search my name on carmax allroad problems.
Still needs a new tranny and the front driver's side was slammed this morning.
I've had it since January and it has spent 2 months in the shop with me out of pocket well over 1k w/ the warranty due to fights w/ Audi.
I suspect it will be slammed again this evening when I go back to the parking garage.
Take carmax's offer to take it back. They basically told me to sue, or it take a hike.
