There have been a few discussions about lease payments lately. I have a spreadsheet model that I use for calculating the payment. If anyone knows if I can post it on the forum let me know. Otherwise send me an e-mail and I can forward the model.

There have been past discussions of the Premier Purchase but I gotten any ideas on how to tell when Premier Purchase is a better choice than a lease. Also - how do the finance rates for PP compare to retail financing and a lease? I'm curious because as soon as I get confirmation that my promotion is going through I'm going to order a new allroad. Any other ideas would be appreciated too. I've learned a lot from this forum. Thanks!!

I did something similar to that through a bank on a 1995 Explorer. I had 2 issues with it, sales tax and resale value. On a lease, Minnesota charges the sales tax on the monthly payment not the purchase price as when you buy the car. Since the Explorer was considered a purchase I paid the full amount of tax. Example $45,000 purchase price. If the lease payment is $700 for 36 months you pay $1,764 in tax based on 7%. You purchase its $3,150.
Resale - On the Explorer I took all the risk on the residual value. I sold the car after 26 months due to the resale value falling much faster than the bank figured it would to prevent being upside down. In a lease the leasing company takes the risk. You can just walk away.
I haven't reviewed the premier purchase more than what it says on the website. So the Explorer deal may have been different than what Audi has. Audi resale is also a little more consistent than an Explorer.

I've used this site before and it's decent. I have found it to typically have lower residuals than the manufacture leasing companies which causes higher payments. It also does not have enough flexibility to do the type of comparsion that is sometimes necessary.
