Default Re: Interesting...

Thanks for the good ideas.

Yeah, I'm pulling pretty straight with it, but it just seems jammed. Shims sound good. We'll give it a try in the AM. I have bunch of them. I just worry about snapping off one of those fins.

As far as the chains go, I am just worried about the last slog up to the house that is closed from the top of the hill, but we need to get up there for Christmas Eve so I'm thinking about putting them on toward the end of the trip. It's an ice rink in spots around here and probably just going to get worse with more crap coming in tonight. Woo hoo! The allroad has done great so far though.

Thanks for the ideas.

Default Thread the small end of an appropriate sized allen key into the hole, Grip the long end with vise

grips and pull. I do it this way all the time.

Default I have never seen chains that require lug bolt removal? <edit>

I would take a heat gun out and heat up the center cap. I will soften the tabs making them less likley to snap off.

Default Genius! Thanks.

That will do it I'm sure. The biggest problem I was having is that that bit of curled wiire they give you is so flimsy. An allen key should be perfect!

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Default You don't pull a bolt, but it needs one for leverage

It is kid of a cool setup. It uses collar over one of the nuts as the fulcrum for the tensioning gizmo in the middle of this springy cross bit that holds it all together.

Best link I could find for these

Default Discount Tire has a cover removal tool on steroids.

the ones they use are much larger and have a big padded handle (at least the guy at my local DT had one...)

Just swing in there and see if they can pop it off for you.

not the norm, that's for sure. I think I'd use the $360 toward a set of snow tires...
