Default Maintenance costs per year?

Greetings all,

I'm tossing around the idea of selling my beloved allroad - to the previous owner no less. The ONLY reason I am considering this is because I'm afraid of unknown future maintenance costs.

The vehicle in question is a 2001 2.7 tiptronic with 152,000 miles. It has a new air pump, several new airbags, one timing belt job, and a torque converter.

If I keep this car another 5 years, what sort of money should I set aside for maintenance and repair? How much do your cars average in repair bills per year?

I've had the car for about 3 years and have averaged about $2000/year in maintenance costs. What have the rest of you averaged?

Default 2k a year is reasonable, IMHO especially for the performance

What could you replace it with?

my maintenance costs for mine exceeded what you options allowed for us. i also previously employed the slush-fund concept for future car maintenance costs or repairs. but my fund wasn't enough to pay for the repairs for my car. utlimately, that is why i had to sell.

warranty, warranty, warranty. either buy a warranty or perhaps you should sell to the previous owner if you cannot afford a warranty.

i was put in an extremely difficult financial situation with my vehicle. i loved it, but the repairs wiped me. please do cover your bases, but good luck!

I've owned my 2003 2.7 tip allroad for 2 years (to the week) now.

Tranmission rear output seal (leaking) - $20+oil (DIY)
Transmission filter change/service (peace of mind) - $120+lots of oil (DIY)
2 front air suspension bags (leaking down) - $1300 (DIY)
A/C Condensor (crapped out) - $650 (indy shop)
Fuel Pressure Regulator (leaking fuel at -30*C temperatures, only NEEDED o-rings, but I found the screen was broken when I took it apart, so replaced the whole thing) - $200 (DIY)
Rear window washer tube (broke open, and soaked rear hatch panel) - $5 (DIY)
Oil change every 5,000 KM (excessive, but peace of mind)- $80x6 times- $480 (DIY)
Pollen/dust filter (I live in a dusty city) - $40X2 - $80 (DIY)

So, about $1400/year.

lol, yeah, I don't think I'd still own it, if I couldn't do my own maintenance. The bad part is... I knew how unreliable these cars were... I know to expect several other things in the future... yet I don't care? I just love the d$%^ car that much, hahahah, I'm a glutton for punishment I suppose.

touche, friend, touche! i live in a condo in a metropolitan area - i don't have a driveway or tools. i don't have the benefit of even being able to try DIY stuff. and i lost the car because of it, most likely. good for you!
