Default Major problem

This is bazzarr.

I was driving down I-70 in my 2001 ar, tip and only 31000 nearly flawless miles. As I exited and braked to stop, I heard a wierd noise and the car got sluggish and vibrated. I thougt I got a flat. No flat. decided to drive a few more feet and the vibration continued while the car was also sluggish. I called road assist and they sent a tow truck.

The dealer put it on the lift and said he couldn't get the front wheels to turn unless he put lots of force on them. He drained the tranny and found metal shavings in the oil.

A new tranny has been ordered.

Has anyone heard of something similar? I'm not sure I'll ever know exactly what failed.

Thanks,

JJ

Default Holy crap. As the no-warranty-guinea-pig that makes me cringe

Just be glad it happened before 50K miles if it had to happen. I hope you have a good tech working on it.

Default 17K..A4 Tip...

My wifes...I was driving hard...lots of manual shifting and suddenly it went into failsafe..locked in third. Next day it was fine. For three weeks it kept happening. Dealer had no clue. Brand new Tranny from Germany via Fed Ex freight..three days...never a problem since..

Default Sounds like something lost it's oil - watch those levels!!!

This happened to me once with a piece of very expensive farm machinery. Year in year out I checked the gear oil levels in it, some points very difficult to access. One year we had bad weather, one good day came, I just hooked it on and went. I got around the field once and bang, a shear bolt broke. This is a safety device in the power take off to protect the tractor.
One oil seal had degraded in the attached machine and it dumped it's oil content that first run around the field, followed by rapid seizure.
Don't, like me, become complacent.
Check those levels.

Default I have warranty until 12/29/2005 and

if I keep it, I'll get the extended warranty for sure. I'm extremely happy with the way Audi handled it. The warranty gives me up to 100.00 per day per person trip insurance until the car is fixed. At least that allowed me to rent a suv at 50.00 per day to get home.
