Well for anyone else reading this thread and wondering, I went with a battery from Interstate. I went overkill and got the MTP-93. It has 850CCA and 1000CA. It fits perfect in the Allroad. It's about 2-3" longer than the MTP-91 (which I believe is closer to the stock battery) but the factory battery clamp can be used by moving it to the outer mounting hole. It spins over quite nicely now!

I just dropped in an Autozone special for $105. AZs are everywhere in Colorado so if it fails, getting a new one is just around the corner.

I just used Mobil 1 0W-40 which I purchased at AutoZone. Yes, it was $7.99 a quart. Ouch! The bottle does show the VW 502 approval.

I used 7 quarts and a Mann W 930/21 oil filter from Germanfilters dot com.

Anyone else want to chime in on the quantity of oil they use for a oil change? I used the same Mann oil filter but only used between 6 and 6 1/2 quarts. I drove the car and then let it sit. Oil level reads right in the middle of the hatch marks on the dipstick.

I initially added about 6.5 quarts during my oil and filter change. The initial oil level was seen as near the bottom of the dip stick hash marks. At that point I added the rest of the 7th quart.

Then I ran the engine for 10 minutes or so to warm up the oil before making a "true" oil level measurement. After the engine was off, I let the car sit for a minute or two before checking the dip stick. This more or less duplicates what happens when stopping for fuel and then checking the oil level. The 7 quarts I put in the 2.7T brought the oil level to the top of the dip stick hash marks. Well, maybe a millimeter above the hash marks.

Prior to installing the oil filter I poured some oil into its center. This was to saturate the filter material with oil. When looking into the filter I would say I filled it about halfway. Only a very small amount (10 drops?) of this oil spilled out as the filter was quickly screwed in place.

Mine took 7 quarts using the Mann filter. Level when warm and after sitting a bit is at the top of the hash marks.
