Go ahead and toss all the stones you want. I am happy as is the original guinea pig cars owner. The sound is great. In my opinion it is what this car should have sounded like from the factory. If you like to blend in with the Volvo XC's then fine. I bought my ar as a goof around toy, an extra banana in the stable and can't justify dumping much cash in to it. It is a fun ski hill hauler and in the summer this makes it a bit less boring. A chip and h-sports are on the way to firm up the power and handling.
Would I do this to a 2004 or 2005, no. But I sense more 2001 and 2002's round these parts and the idea is for those cars.

Seems to be a built in resonance at 3200 on our engines, which would be right about 75mph. How did yours end up? I've avoided the rear delete because the one A6 I rode in was unbearable on a trip. Actually hurt your ears. That's why I have an RS6 exhaust hanging int he garage waiting to find the time to install.

The noisiest point is at 3000 and it is not very loud at all. With the windows up it the sound is almost eliminated. The best thing about this is you can totally reverse it. Just put the exhaust back on and use the sleeves to join where you previously cut.
After searching the A6 forum it appears the resonance is from guys removing the resonators, not the mufflers. Not too bright in my opinion.
My impression now is that it is way to quiet. With the windows down a car driving along side of you will completely mask any sound form the exhaust
